I Thought About It for a Moment and Said “Being the Only One Trying”
“That’s Not Change. That’s Damage” she Said
I Looked at Her and Said, “Damage Teaches Faster Than Advice”
“And What Did It Teach You?” She Asked
“To Stop Expecting Depth from People Who Live on The Surface” I Told Her.
She Looked at Me in Shock,
Like She Was Seeing a Whole Different Human Being Seated Right Next to Her,
I Told Her I’m No Longer Looking at Life with Rose Coloured Glasses,
Now, I’m Owning My Mistakes and Taking the Lessons with Me,
“What Do You Mean” She Asked
I Said, “The Past Explains Who You Are Now but Does Not Excuse Who You Are in The Future. At Some Point, You Have to Take Accountability and Tackle the Demons of Your Past.”
She Seemed Confused by My Answer So I Continued by Telling Her,
The Truth Is …
Loving Him Was Never a Mistake,
But It Taught Me How Beautiful Pain Can Feel,
I Don’t Miss Him Loudly Anymore…
Just Quietly, In Moments I Thought Were Healed
We Didn’t End Badly…
We Just Ended Before We Were Ready to Let Go,
I Stopped Waiting for Him,
But Part of Me Still Looks for Him in Everything.
I Survived Losing Him,
But I Lost Parts of Myself Doing It,
I Keep Pretending I’m Okay,
But His Absence Still Feels Louder Than His Love Ever Was,

She Was Speechless So I Continued to Say,
